Project Summary

The sanitary sewer on J Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues needs to be replaced due to the age and condition of the sewer pipe. The replacement of the sewer will also include removing and replacing the street pavement on this block. To improve pedestrian access, new sidewalk is proposed to connect the sidewalk on 1st Avenue to the sidewalks on 2nd and 3rd Avenues.

As part of the sewer replacement, individual sewer service lines will be replaced from the sewer main to the property line. If a homeowner on J Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue would like to replace the remaining sewer service line from the property line to the house, they will be responsible to hire a plumbing contractor. Some trees in the right-of-way may need to be removed as part of the sewer and sidewalk construction.

During construction, J Street will be closed to through traffic from 1st to 3rd Avenue. For local traffic, there will be times when vehicle access to driveways is not available, limited, or on temporary surfacing.  During these times, residents will need to park on 2nd or 3rd Avenue and walk to their homes. Access to homes on the 2nd Avenue dead-end south of J Street will be maintained throughout construction; however, there may be times when access is limited to one lane and/or temporary surfacing.

• Bidding: Fall 2022
• Construction Start Date: Spring 2023
• Construction End Date: Summer 2023

A project information meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 22 June 2022, in the library of Southeast Junior High School, 2501 Bradford Drive.
