Know a child or teen who dreams of flying? The Iowa City Municipal Airport is hosting an event that can fulfill those wishes.

From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021, at the airport, 1801 Riverside Drive, the Young Eagles youth aviation education program will be providing young people who have an interest in aviation an opportunity to take to the skies with a local pilot.

The Young Eagles program will pair youth with pilots who are volunteer members of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 33 for a 15 to 20-minute flight around the Iowa City area.

The program is available to youth between the ages of eight and 17. Participants must be accompanied to the airport by a parent or guardian.

After the flight, participants will have an opportunity to meet other pilots and airport staff to learn more about planes, safety, and the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.

Those interested in participating will be required to register online.

No fees will be charged for the flight. Each pilot is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration or Transport Canada.

Flights are conducted according to federal regulations and no aerobatic maneuvers will be performed.
