City of Iowa City offices, facilities and City Hall will be closed Fri. Dec. 23, Mon. Dec. 26, 2016 and Mon. Jan. 2, 2017 for the winter holidays.

Other City schedule adjustments are listed below. Normal operations will resume Tues. Jan. 3, 2017.

Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection:

Fri. Dec. 23: Normal collection. Mon. Dec. 26: No garbage or recycling pick-up. Tues. Dec. 27: Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected. Materials should be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Note: the City cannot determine exactly when items will be collected...

Washington Streetscape Project Update – Friday, Dec. 9, 2016

Beginning today, Dec. 9, 2016, the 200 block of Washington Street will be open to two-way traffic. Due to predicted inclement weather, additional street and sidewalk paving, including traffic signalization at the intersection of Washington and Linn Streets will be delayed until spring 2017. Work on the Dubuque and Washington Street traffic signal, as well as permanent lighting on the 200 block will continue through the winter months. Weekly property and business owner meetings will be suspended until the spring season when construction commences.

Iowa City reminds property owners and tenants of sidewalk snow removal ordinance

With snow season’s arrival this year, the City of Iowa City reminds residents of the snow removal ordinance requiring sidewalks to be cleared within 24 hours after a one-inch or more snowfall, or after any accumulation of ice has ended.

Property owners are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from all sidewalks that abut their private property. The entire width of the sidewalk must be cleared down to concrete. Update: The "Know Your Rights" program is being rescheduled due to predicted weather conditions on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016. A new date has not yet been set.

The Iowa City Human Rights Office is hosting a program aimed at informing the public of their rights and available resources regarding spousal and partner abuse. The program, “Know your Rights: Spousal and Partner Abuse Laws and Resources,” will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at the Social Hall in the Robert A. Parks and Forestry launch tree inventory project

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 the Iowa City Parks and Forestry Division will begin an inventory of the City's trees. A team of arborists from Plan-It Geo, a geo-technical firm from Colorado, will be out in neighborhoods gathering data on the City's urban forestry, as well as mapping and cataloging the tree species. This inventory will yield information and mapping tools to help the Parks and Forestry Division better manage and maintain Iowa City's urban forest.

Iowa City Leaf Vacuum Program ends for the 2016 season

Tuesday, December 6, 2016, will be the last official day of our leaf vacuum program. Leaf crews will be completing the portion of Route #4 that they were unable to finish on Saturday, December 3 and will be entering Route #3. The Iowa River Trail is expected to close early this week and will remain closed until next fall for ongoing work on the Iowa City Gateway Project , a flood mitigation effort on Dubuque Street.

The trail will be closed until the elevation of the southbound lanes of Dubuque Street has been completed, which will not be done until fall 2017.

Iowa City Leaf Vacuum Program – No Collection on Monday, December 5, 2016

Due to the snowfall on Sunday, there will be no leaf collection today, Monday December 5th. Bearing in mind the higher temperatures forecasted for today, we are anticipating there will be enough snow melt so that we will be able to resume the leaf collection program on Tuesday, December 6th.
