City Hall administrative offices in Iowa City will be closed on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24, Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, and New Year's Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

The following schedules will be in effect for other City facilities during the holidays:

Airport: Office closed December 24, 25, and January 1. Jet Air (FBO) will be closed Dec.25, but will be available for a fee by calling 319-248-1200. Service will be available regular hours the other days. Self Services fuel (100LL and Jet-A) available 24-hours.

It’s time once again for local writers to submit poems for consideration in the 18th Annual Poetry in Public, sponsored by the Iowa City Public Art Program. Writers of all ages, levels of writing ability, and experience are encouraged to submit entries to the contest.

Poetry in Public was initiated in 2002 to celebrate, promote, and nurture Iowa City’s rich literary tradition, especially its local talent and writing culture.

A panel of local judges will review entries and then select poems for display throughout the Iowa City community and on local and literary websites....

As you prepare to head out of town for winter break or holiday travel, be sure your vehicle and home are in order before you leave. Avoid expensive fines and inconvenient issues by taking these four steps:

1. Move your car off the street

Vehicles parked on the street must be moved every 48-hours to avoid a citation. If you plan to be out of town for more than two days, move your vehicle off the street. Vehicles that do not move face ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense.

Clear your sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall in Iowa City

A reminder, sidewalks must be cleared within 24-hours of a one-inch or greater snowfall, or after any accumulation of ice has ended for sidewalks to be used safely by pedestrians.Those who do not remove snow and ice may be fined.

Property owners are responsible for the ice and snow removal from all sidewalks that abut their private property.

The entire width of the sidewalk must be cleared down to concrete. Renters should check their leases to see if their landlord has transferred the responsibility of snow and ice removal to them...

This year, crews collected 516 dump truck loads of leaves, and made it through all seven zones six times.

As of Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, the program will cease operating so crews can begin the process of winterizing and converting trucks for snow removal.
