Crews will begin work to put the finishing touches on the Washington Streetscape Project, beginning Monday, April 3, 2017.

The bulk of the remaining work will take place at the intersection of Washington and Linn Streets. To accommodate the work, Linn Street will be reduced to allow only one lane of north-bound traffic between Iowa Avenue and College Street. Crews will finish street and sidewalk paving, as well as the remaining electrical work within the 200 block of Washington Street. Other project work will not impact traffic along Washington Street.

New traffic signals will not be installed at the Washington/Dubuque Street and Washington/Linn Street intersections. Instead, the Iowa City City Council voted in March to make those intersections four-way stops with stop signs.

Work on the project should wrap-up with Linn Street reopening at the end of May, weather permitting.

All businesses on Washington Street will remain open and accessible while work is completed.

The Washington Streetscape Project was done to update the look and feel of the street, while also replacing underground infrastructure. It is part of the City’s larger Downtown and Pedestrian Mall Streetscape plan.
