Today’s meeting (Friday, April 15) focused on business concerns in the project area. Of note were questions regarding gas main changes. There is a meeting on Monday, April 18, for City Officials and MidAmerican Energy representatives to discuss the proposed gas relocation plan on Washington Street. Information regarding the relocation will be shared with property owners and residents at a later date.
Temporary water main shutdowns will happen next week as work is being done to replace the 12” water main. Impacted businesses will be notified 48 hours in advance of these shutdowns (some will receive notice today). The preliminary shutdown will take place from 2 a.m. to 8 am., Tuesday, April 19 and will impact water main along Clinton Street from Washington St. to Iowa Ave.
Water main shutdowns will normally be isolated – business by business. Notification will be given in advance, except in an emergency.
The Iowa City Downtown District will begin its public art project that will include providing ribbons to decorate project fencing on Tuesday, April 19. Banners and instructions will be going up today near Momma’s Deli and 126.
A City project webcam is in the works with preliminary plans for placement near the Senior Center and one other location to provide a view of the project’s progress over time.
Work to elevate Dubuque Street and the Park Road Bridge, also known as The Gateway Project, will begin in June. Project updates will be shared with this email group as traffic on Dubuque Street will be impacted.
