The City of Iowa City and the University of Iowa are partnering on a Riverwalk Clean-Up on Saturday, Oct. 17, during which volunteers will help remove trash from the banks of the Iowa River and spruce up adjacent sidewalk areas. This event replaces the Ralston Creek clean-up that the City of Iowa City had originally scheduled on Sunday, Oct. 18.
Volunteers should register online at www.iihr.uiowa.edu/igs/iowa-river-clean-up-2015 and then meet near the University of Iowa Water Plant, on the northeast side of the Burlington Street Bridge next to the University of Iowa Main Library parking lot, at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the event. The clean-up is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m.
Participants will be removing trash and debris and should come prepared to get dirty. Closed-toe shoes or boots should be worn. Sunblock, bug spray, and work gloves are also recommended. Bags, a limited supply of gloves, and refreshments will be provided. In case of rain on the day of the event, contact Dave McClain at 319‐631‐2331 or Carol Sweeting at 319-541-2385 to find out if the clean-up has been cancelled.
This event is being sponsored by the City of Iowa City and the following areas of the University of Iowa: IIHR - Hydroscience and Engineering, Engineering Staff Advisory Council, Facilities Management, Office of Sustainability, and Iowa Geological Survey.
