Volunteers are needed from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 2, 9, 23 and 30, 2017 to help remove trash, invasive species and woody debris from Ralston Creek and the Iowa River. These efforts help reduce flooding and erosion, while also improving water quality.

Those interested in helping should RSVP in advance to the Iowa City Stormwater Volunteer Cleanup Facebook event or call 319-541-2385.

The group will meet and receive assignments shortly before noon at the listed location found on the Facebook Page or on the City's Volunteer Event Calendar. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a liability form at the start of the event. Volunteers should come prepared to get dirty. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toe shoes or boots. Hats are also recommended. The City will provide tools, gloves, and water.

Watch the creek clean-up video below to learn how you can participate. More information is also available on the City of Iowa City Stormwater Volunteer Opportunities Facebook page.

Clean-up events can be cancelled due to weather, shortage of volunteers, or other issues. Be sure to check the Facebook page after 10 a.m. on the morning of the clean-up to make sure it’s still on.
