Celebrate bookmobiles with the Iowa City Public Library and Antelope Lending Library on National Bookmobile Day Wednesday, April 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mercer Park, 2701 Bradford Dr.

Visit both Bookmobiles as well as other vehicles that provide mobile services in town, including a fire truck, police car, University of Iowa Mobile Medical Clinic, Table to Table van, and an Iowa City Transit bus.

Washington Street to reduce to one-lane between Linn and Gilbert Streets

Crews plan to reduce Washington Street to allow one lane of east-bound traffic between Linn and Gilbert streets on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 for work on the Washington Streetscape Project.

Work is being done to finish street and sidewalk paving. It is anticipated that work will be completed and Washington Street will reopen to two-way traffic on Friday, April 21, 2017.

Court Street work cancelled: 4 bus routes to resume normal service

Update 4/3/17: Construction work on Court Street, the Lakeside, Mall, Southside Shuttle, and Night Broadway will resume normal service effective on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Construciton on Court Street has been cancelled. If you have questions call Transportation and Resource Management at 356-5151.

Effective Monday, April 3, 2017 the inbound and outbound Lakeside, inbound and outbound Mall, inbound Southside Shuttle and the inbound Night Broadway routes will detour due to the closure of Court Street from Clinton Street to Dubuque Street for sewer installation work.

Bus riders who rely on Bongo (Bus on the Go) information to plan their local trips, may notice minor disruptions to service over the next week while changes are being made to the technology beginning Friday, March 31, 2017. Customers should note that there will be no change to the website or app’s look and function. Modifications will impact internal operations only. Kimball Road will temporarily close for water main work that will allow for water service to continue throughout the duration of the Iowa City Gateway Project.

The road will close to traffic east of the Gilbert Street intersection beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 and will be back-filled, re-paved and reopened by 7 a.m. on Monday, April 3. Drivers will need to take a different route during this time.

In partnership with Field to Family and Backyard Abundance, Iowa City Parks and Recreation will host a school garden workshop, “Teaching the Next Generation: The Garden as Your Classroom” on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center Outdoor Classroom, 220 S. Gilbert St. This class is open to teachers, school district staff, early care and education providers, garden volunteers and all who are interested in using gardening as an education tool in Johnson and neighboring counties.
