Become a Kid Vendor at the Farmers Market - applications now available online

The Iowa City Farmers Market is excited to host the ninth annual Kids Market (formerly known as Kids Day) at the Farmers Market.

Kids ages 8 to 18 (younger are allowed with an adult present) are invited to participate as a Kid Vendor from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at the Iowa City Farmers Market, 415 East Washington Street, just across the street from City Hall and north of the Chauncey Swan Ramp.

Participating kids should bring everything they need to set up a booth, which may include tables and chairs. Kids will be responsible for setting up and cleaning...

Enjoy free samples of fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods during the annual Taste of Market event on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at the Iowa City Farmers Market. The event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Iowa City Farmers Market in the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp, across from City Hall on Washington Street.

This event is free and open to all. Samples are donated by Farmers Market vendors and prepared by Farmers Market staff and employees of GreenState Credit Union, who co-sponsor the event with the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department.

Rummage in the Ramp sets new records for amount of waste diverted and funds raised

The 13th annual Rummage in the Ramp event diverted more than 32 tons of materials from curbs and dumpsters, setting a new record as more than 800 residents donated their still-usable items.

Rummage in the Ramp is an annual City-sponsored effort that began in 2007 to keep tons of reusable items out of the Iowa City Landfill, while providing items to those who need them when leases changeover at the end of July. This work dramatically reduces the amount of goods that go to the Landfill, a sustainability goal that serves as a vital part of the City's...

During this free event, the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre will perform at 6:30 p.m., with live music provided by The Remains beginning at 7 p.m.

Public input sought for new playgrounds at Fairmeadows and Wetherby Parks

The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking the public's input on replacement playgrounds and shelters at two Iowa City parks. All proposed upgrades meet ADA requirements while improving access to primary park amenities. These year 2020 projects follow the recommendations of the 2017 Iowa City Park Master Plan. Comments on the proposed designs will be accepted through paper or online form below until Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.

City approves five-year deer management plan; read resolution here

At the Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019 City Council meeting, the Council approved a five-year plan to help manage the deer population in Iowa City.

The full resolution can be read online. The plan calls for one season of sharpshooting of deer by White Buffalo Incorporated, between Dec. 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
