Dubuque Street will not temporarily close twice daily for underground rock splitting work this week, Mon. Aug. 15 - Fri. Aug. 19.

Crews had anticipated the need to close at approximately 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday - Friday through at least Aug. 23, but will not do so this week.

Underground rock is being split to allow for the installation of deep sanitary trunk sewer under the northbound lanes of Dubuque Street. The work is being done as part of the Iowa City Gateway...

After its 10th year, Rummage in the Ramp continues to prove its popularity in Iowa City, diverting roughly 27 tons of household goods from the Landfill during the 12-day event. Launched as an effort to reduce the volume of still-usable goods taken to the Landfill following the traditional college student move-out cycle, this recycle-and-reuse event also raised $19,000 for local nonprofits this year. Sale proceeds were split by the local agencies and student organizations that helped staff the event.

Construction of the First Avenue Grade Separation Project, which elevates the railroad crossing and lowers the road, is progressing and will require the closure of First Avenue beginning Saturday, August 20, 2016.

The closure will impact First Avenue, south of Bradford Drive through Mall Drive, which will be closed to thru traffic and is necessary for crews to remove the temporary road and begin paving under the new railroad bridge.

The Old Capitol Sertoma Club will be serving up pancakes, sausage, and beverages at the 38th Annual Airport Pancake Breakfast and Fly-in on Sunday, August 28, 2016. Road Construction - Muscatine Avenue

Beginning Monday, August 15, 2016, Muscatine Avenue between S. First Avenue and Iowa Avenue will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic. This lane reduction is necessary to facilitate pavement maintenance and repair. This project is a moving operation and the lane reduction will be kept localized to a couple of blocks at a time to reduce the impact to traffic. Residential access will remain open during the construction. Work is anticipated to be completed by Tuesday, August 16.

Local entertainers Kalimbaman and the Yahoo Drummers will be the featured musicians for the season finale Party in the Park event, scheduled Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Mercer Park, at 2701 Bradford Drive.
