City administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. Other office closures and schedule changes that will be in effect that day include:

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed

Airport: Administration office will be closed, but Jet Air will be open.

Cemetery: The office at Oakland Cemetery will be closed. Beginning Saturday, Nov. 7, artificial wreaths, artificial flowers, or other decorations may be placed on graves for Veterans Day or for the holidays. These materials will remain in place through the end of February 2016. If not claimed by then, they will be removed by Cemetery staff.

Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed

Library: Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking: Normal operations will be in effect.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices will be closed at both facilities, but the Robert A. Lee and Mercer / Scanlon buildings and pools will be open regular hours.

Police: Administration and Records offices will be closed. Patrol personnel and station masters will be on duty.

Refuse, Recycling and Yard Waste: Curbside collection will not take place on Veterans Day. Residents on the Wednesday route should have garbage, recycling, and yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. Residents on the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday routes should have materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on their regular collection day, although the City cannot determine exactly when items will be collected.

Senior Center: Closed. Senior meals will not be served.

Streets: The City's Leaf Vacuum Program will be running from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Veterans Day. For information on the leaf vacuum schedule, visit

Transit: Normal operations will be in effect. Iowa City Transit and Johnson County SEATS paratransit service will offer free rides to veterans on Veterans Day, if they show a military ID.

Water: Office will be closed. For a water emergency, call the 24-hour emergency number at 319-356-5166.
