Administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, to commemorate Veterans Day, which is Saturday, Nov. 11. 

To honor those who have served, Iowa City Transit is offering complimentary rides to veterans and their families on Veteran's Day, Saturday. Riders are asked to show a military ID or other identification indicating veteran status.

Other office closures and schedule changes for Friday, Nov. 10 include: 

Airport: Administration office closed, but Jet Air will be open.

Cemetery: The office at Oakland Cemetery will be closed. Grave decorations: Beginning Saturday, Nov. 4, artificial wreaths, artificial flowers, or other decorations may be placed on graves for Veterans Day or for the holidays. These materials may remain in place through the end of February 2017. If not claimed by then, they will be removed by Cemetery staff.

Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed Friday, but open regular hours Saturday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Library: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking: Normal operations in effect.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices will be closed at both facilities, but the Robert A. Lee and Mercer / Scanlon buildings and pools will be open regular hours.

Police: Administration and Records offices closed. Patrol and station masters on duty.

Refuse, Recycling and Yard Waste: There will be no curbside garbage, recycling, or yard waste collection on Friday. Residents on the Friday route should have materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13. Monday route customers should follow their regular schedule, although the City cannot determine exactly when items will be collected.

Senior Center: Closed. No senior meals. 

Streets: The City's Leaf Vacuum Program will operate on Friday. More at

Transit: Normal operations, and free rides will be available for veterans and their families on fixed-route City buses and Johnson County SEATS on Veterans Day. Show a military ID or other identification indicating vet status. For more information, call 319-356-5151.
