Administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 for Veterans Day. Other office closures and schedule changes in effect that day include:

Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed

Airport: Administration office closed, but Jet Air will be open.

Cemetery: The office at Oakland Cemetery will be closed. Grave decorations: Beginning Saturday, Nov. 5, artificial wreaths, artificial flowers, or other decorations may be placed on graves for Veterans Day or for the holidays. These materials may remain in place through the end of February 2017. If not claimed by then, they will be removed by Cemetery staff.

Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed

Library: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking: Normal operations will be in effect.

Parks and Recreation: Administrative offices will be closed at both facilities, but the Robert A. Lee and Mercer / Scanlon buildings and pools will be open regular hours.

Police: Administration and Records offices will be closed. Patrol personnel and station masters will be on duty.

Refuse, Recycling and Yard Waste: There will be no curbside garbage, recycling, or yard waste collection on Veterans Day. Residents on the Friday route should have materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14. Monday route customers should follow their regular schedule, although the City cannot determine exactly when items will be collected.

Senior Center: Closed. Senior meals will not be served.

Streets: The City's Leaf Vacuum Program will operate on Veterans Day. For more information, visit

Transit: Normal operations will be in effect, and free rides will be available for veterans and their families on fixed-route City buses and Johnson County SEATS on Veterans’ Day. Please show a military ID or other identification indicating veterans’ status. For more information, call 319-356-5151.

Water: Office will be closed. For a water emergency, call the 24-hour emergency number at 319-356-5166.
