Since its inception in 2007, Rummage in the Ramp has been a historic success for City sustainability goals by diverting used goods from the Iowa City Landfill.
In its first 12 years, the sale of used couches, furniture, and every day appliances has diverted almost 300 tons of refuse: 291.9 tons exactly. In comparison, a mature African elephant weighs 6.7 tons, which means Rummage in the Ramp has diverted the equivalent of the weight of 45 elephants from the Landfill.
