An emergency water main repair will require parts of First Avenue in Iowa City to be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. This will impact First Avenue from D Street to Muscatine Avenue.

Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if traveling in this area, as delays will occur. As always, drivers should exercise caution when traveling through construction areas.

City announces street closures, transit changes for Iowa Soul Festival

Iowa City’s final Summer of the Arts festival of the 2015 season, the Iowa Soul Festival, will bring the impassioned dance, music, food, and art of the African and African-American communities to Downtown Iowa City on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28-29. The event will kick off with the Iowa City Carnival Parade that will wind through Downtown Iowa City beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Linn Street.

Iowa City Transit regular service hours to resume Monday, Aug. 17

Starting Monday, Aug. 17, Iowa City Transit will cease operating a summer schedule and resume regular service. Schedule changes are listed below:

The Towncrest and Oakcrest routes will resume operating 30 minute service all day, Monday through Friday. Night and Weekend service for the Towncrest and Oakcrest routes will be unchanged. The free Downtown Shuttle route will resume operating.

In order to better serve our customers and the students of Southeast Junior High, Regina and City High School, Iowa City Transit will be making several changes to the AM and PM Eastside Loop routes effective August 24, 2015. These changes are necessary due to the earlier start times released by the Iowa City school district for the upcoming school year as well as the ongoing First Avenue Grade Separation project that is expected to continue through to next summer. Effective from 5:45 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, Iowa City Transit routes will detour due to RAGBRAI. All Iowa City Transit routes will continue to service the downtown interchange located at the intersection of Clinton Street and Washington Street during the RAGBRAI events downtown. Road construction and transit service notice: Iowa Avenue street resurfacing

Weather permitting, on Monday, July 20, Iowa Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from Riverside Drive/Hwy 6 to Madison Street. This closure is necessary to facilitate the resurfacing of Iowa Avenue and will include street milling, patching and resurfacing work.

A detour route will be posted and will utilize Burlington Street. It is anticipated that normal traffic will resume by the end of the day on Thursday, July 23.
