Update: The ride has been postponed to Thursday, May 18, 2017 due to the weather forecast of thunderstorms and high wind.
More than 100 cyclists are expected to participate in the annual New Pioneer Co-op to Co-op Ride as part of Bike Month and national Bike to Work Week on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
Drivers and bicyclists should be mindful of road work as they travel along North Dubuque Street that evening, as it is currently under construction as part of the Iowa City Gateway Project. Southbound lanes are closed for work and the northbound lanes are configured for head-to-head traffic. Vehicles are already moving slowly during peak times, and will experience additional delays the evening of the ride between 6 and 6:30 p.m.
Drivers are advised to take a different route if possible as cyclists move through the area in order to ensure the safety of the cyclists during this popular event.
The ride will leave College Green Park at 5:45 p.m. and is expected to reach Dubuque Street around 6 p.m. Participants will ride north on Dubuque Street, between Church Street and Foster Road, before turning left on Foster and into the Peninsula neighborhood, then over to the Coralville New Pi location.
Iowa City Police officers will help guide traffic the evening of the ride.
