Weather permitting, travel on the following street will be impacted beginning on Monday, July 25, 2022:

South Gilbert Street will be closed in both directions at the CRANDIC railroad crossing between Benton Street and Maiden Lane.

Access to businesses will be maintained and a detour route using Kirkwood Avenue, Benton Street, Riverside Drive, and Burlington Street will be posted.

The closure will facilitate the reconstruction of the CRANDIC railroad crossing and street pavement repair. It is anticipated normal traffic will resume by Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.

Tower Place Parking Ramp closure moved to July 22-24

Due to weather concerns, the planned closure of Tower Place Parking Ramp July 15-17, 2022 will not occur. The ramp will operate normally this weekend, with some restricted parking.

Weather permitting, the ramp will be closed from 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, through Sunday, July 24, 2022, for maintenance work. Updates will be issued if additional closure dates are needed.

The Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee and the South District Neighborhood Association are seeking qualifications for an Artist Mentor interested in a short-term public art project.

The Artist Mentor will guide an Emerging Artist through a public art project that results in a bus stop bench installation near the Heinz Road and Highway 6 intersection.

The project would involve an estimated 65 hours of service from the start this August through installation in 2023, including serving on a committee to select an Emerging Artist and then serving as a mentor to that artist...

The closure of the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center's parking lot will continue Monday, July 18, through Wednesday, July 20, 2022. It was initially closed beginning Monday, July 11 for pavement resurfacing.

The parking lot will be open July 16 for the Iowa City Farmers Market.

No thru traffic to or from Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp or Burlington Street will be allowed Monday through Wednesday. Access to Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp's ground floor will be from Washington Street only.

Calling 911 based solely on a person's skin color and personal biases is racist, hurtful, and damaging to the community. That's why the City of Iowa City would like to remind the community that "Race-based Calls Hurt Us All."

Race-based calls occur when someone calls 911 for racially-motivated reasons, not because a crime has taken place. They occur when a person of color is engaging in normal, daily activities such as relaxing at a park or walking on the sidewalk.

At the Tuesday, July 12, 2022, City Council meeting, members of the Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance Service were recognized for their efforts to save a cardiac arrest patient earlier this year.

At 9:55 a.m., May 25, 2022, Iowa City Fire Engine 4 and the Johnson County Ambulance Service were called to Urban Fuel, 2580 Moss Ridge Road, to assist with a call regarding a sick person. Engine 4 and the ambulance service responded from Station 4 one minute after being dispatched.
