The Hawkeye pep rally that had been scheduled tonight (Friday, Sept. 18) at 6 p.m. on the Ped Mall has been cancelled. Organizers from the Johnson County I-Club made the decision to cancel due to a forecast of inclement weather. The Hawkeyes will face the Pittsburgh Panthers in a 7 p.m. game on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
The event had been scheduled as part of a series of pep rallies and lunches implemented this year to drive support for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The activities are sponsored by the Johnson County I-Club, City of Iowa City, Iowa City Downtown District, UI Alumni Association, and the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Next up in the series is a lunch with Coach Kirk Ferentz on Oct. 9, the day before Iowa’s Homecoming game against Illinois. It will start at noon at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame and Museum, located at the northwest corner of Melrose Avenue and Mormon Trek Boulevard in Iowa City. UI Athletics Hall of Fame and former NFL All-Pro tight end Marv Cook will serve as emcee, and Coach Ferentz will be the keynote speaker. He will also be joined by guest speakers. Tickets to the luncheon are on sale now for $20 at www.jointheiclub.com.
