LGBTQ+ History Month is the celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender achievements throughout history. Since these accomplishments are often unrecognized by the educational system, organizations need to educate their members and employees during LGBTQ+ History Month.

LGBTQ+ History Month was first celebrated in the United States in 1994, centering on National Coming Out Day, which occurs annually on October 11. There's only a week until Iowa City Climate Fest brings four days of climate action celebrations across town. The annual festival commemorates all the ways residents, businesses, and organizations are taking action to address climate change.

From Big Grove Brewery to Wetherby Park; an EV car show to a film screening, Iowa City Climate Fest features a bouquet of events across Iowa City from Sept. 21 through Sept. 24, 2022. All events are free and open for all ages.

Transit Alert: Downtown Shuttle (Route 4) detoured on Wednesday, Sept. 14

The 4-Downtown Shuttle bus will detour on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, using Gilbert Street to College Street to Van Buren Street. The detour is due the closure of Washington Street to through traffic between Gilbert and Van Buren Streets.

Stop 7046, Washington Street at City Hall, will not be serviced until Washington Street is reopened at the end of the day on Sept. 14. Transit passengers may access the bus at the intersection of Washington and Van Buren streets.

This new event will cover fishing basics and families will also enjoy other fish-related activities, including gyotaku fish painting, fish short stories, and a casting game. Weather permitting, travel on the following street will be impacted beginning Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022.

Celebrate Child Passenger Safety Week with a free child safety seat check on Wednesday, Sept. 14

In recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 18-24, the Iowa City Fire Department and Safe Kids Johnson County will host a free child safety seat check on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022.

The free seat check will take place at Iowa City Fire Station 4, 2008 Dubuque Road, from 5-7:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary and walk-ins are welcome. Just bring your child safety seat, your vehicle and your child to the event. Certified safety seat technicians will be available to answer questions, check for recalls, and ensure your safety seat is correctly installed.

Downtown gated parking ramp hours to change effective Sept. 19

Starting Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, the Capitol Street, Dubuque Street, Tower Place, and Court Street Transportation Center parking ramp hours of operation will change to 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Customers exiting these ramps will be charged hourly fees for parking during these times. The change in hours of operation was designed to ensure all gated parking facilities are on the same schedule.

The Chauncey Swan and Harrison Street parking ramp hours will remain the same, with hourly fees charged between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m....
