The first day of the City's Leaf Vacuum program begins soon: Monday, Oct. 17, 2022.

Printed maps are available in City utility bills and also at the information desk in City Hall, 410 E. Washington St., and the Streets Division office at 3800 Napoleon Lane. Maps are also available online at www.icgov.org/leafvacuum . Here are a few tips to make the process go more smoothly and efficiently:

Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague has proclaimed Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Iowa City. The proclamation was signed at the Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, City Council meeting.

A growing number of local governments have recognized that, as our understanding of history changes, so must our commemorative events. The proclamation encourages educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day and join the City in committing to oppose and overcome systemic racism and injustices.

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, the 5-Lower Muscatine/Kirkwood bus will be detoured due to road work on the east side of Fairmeadows Boulevard, south of Highway 6.

Outbound buses will continue on the normal route.

Inbound buses will service The Quarters using the Frontage Road as usual, but will then detour to Hollywood Boulevard. Buses will continue to Sycamore Street, Highway 6, and South First Avenue then left back onto Lower Muscatine Road. Eastdale Plaza (Stop 7134) and Proctor and Gamble (Stop 7218) customers can access the inbound 5 - Lower Muscatine / Kirkwood...

To complete the First Avenue and Scott Boulevard Intersection Improvements project, the intersection will be closed beginning Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022. This closure is dependent on weather.

The new roundabout in the area will be open once the closure is finished. Depending on weather, the intersection should reopen Friday, Oct. 21, 2022.

During the closure, a detour route will be posted and includes North Dodge Street, North Governor Street, Burlington Street, Muscatine Avenue, Court Street, and First Avenue.
