The deadline for the City's Rummage Redux DIY competition is fast approaching: 5 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020. So get to work on those DIY projects at home, and share them with us for a chance to win cash prizes!

Rummage Redux (pronounced “re-ducks”) is the City's annual DIY competition where residents can take used pieces of furniture or other items they own, revive or redux it themselves with creativity, and then potentially win some cash for their work.

This year, as with many other events, Rummage Redux is going virtual with a more flexible format and online submission application.

The Rummage Redux Challenge is an opportunity to spur your creative side and transform items from simply serviceable to shockingly spectacular, while competing against other participants. Anyone can enter, but prizes cannot be awarded to contestants who live outside of Johnson County or are City of Iowa City employees.

Projects for Rummage Redux can be done in three separate categories:

  • Furniture Restoration – refinish, repaint, reupholster
  • Artistic Reinvention – remake ordinary objects into works of art
  • Creative Adaption – transform items from an intended use to a creative reuse
