At 10:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2021, Iowa City Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at GreenState Credit Union, 825 Mormon Trek Blvd. The victim reported using a drive-through lane at the credit union when they were approached by a subject with a gun. The victim was able to put their vehicle into drive and safely escape.

To ensure your curbside materials are collected safely and successfully throughout the winter season, follow these tips:

Place carts or containers on a solid surface for pickup, such as the end of your driveway or the edge of the right-of-way. Do not place carts on a snowbank or in the street. Have carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day for pickup. Do not overfill carts. City ordinance states the lids must be closed. Keep at least a 3-feet clear zone around each cart. Keep recycling materials loose—no plastic bags! Also, no glass or Styrofoam.

Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.

The new year certainly came in with a bang, snow-wise.

With the snowfall ending at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2021, sidewalks in Iowa City must be cleared within 24-hours of a one-inch or greater snowfall, or after any accumulation of ice has ended, for sidewalks to be used safely by pedestrians. Those who do not remove snow and ice may be fined.

City urges residents to move cars off-street before snowstorm

A snowstorm is slated to hit Iowa City this Saturday, bringing large amounts of snow. Forecasts predict anywhere between six to eight inches of total accumulation on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.

The City is urging all residents to park their cars off-street so plows can efficiently clear roads of snow. If off-street parking is not available, residents should consider alternative parking arrangements. For example, vehicles can be moved to a Downtown Parking ramp. Vehicles can be parked at any of the ramps listed below for overnight storage.

The City of Iowa City is now accepting applications from organizations for public services, public facilities, and affordable housing projects for Fiscal Year 2023. Applications are due by noon on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022.

Emerging Aid to Agencies (A2A) provides flexible operational funding for nonprofits providing public services. The City expects approximately $30,000 to be available for agencies not classified as “legacy” agencies in the City’s consolidated plan, City Steps 2025 (p.150).
