Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 23, 2022, to attend Sunrise to Sunset, a day-long fundraising event at City Park Pool. The fun begins at sunrise with lap swim running from 6:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. and open swim from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. All pool admissions will be in a ‘pay what you want’ format and the proceeds raised will directly benefit the Iowa City Parks & Recreation's RecAssist Scholarship Program. This scholarship program provides free swim lessons to children and adults in Iowa City with financial need.
Along with swimming, there will be yard games, arts and crafts, water safety lessons, giveaways, music, and paddle board demos. The evening ends with a free screening of “Raya and the Last Dragon,” which is being shown in partnership with the Summer of the Arts as part of its Free Movie Series. The movie will begin around 8:30 p.m. in Upper City Park.
One of the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department's primary objectives is to teach every child in Iowa City how to swim, regardless of age, socioeconomic standing, or ability. RecAssist scholarship funds are also used to help provide those with financial need the opportunity to purchase swim passes and participate in other recreational programs and classes at a reduced rate. Applications for the program are available online.
