Seventh grade students in Iowa City – what would you do if you were mayor?

Now’s your chance to think big and get creative! Enter the Iowa League of Cities essay contest, “If I Were Mayor ….”.

“This is a great opportunity for students to consider how they would make their cities a better place to live, while having a little fun, too,” Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton said. “We hope many Iowa City seventh graders will participate.”

Regional winners will receive a $250 college scholarship, and one statewide winner will receive a $500 scholarship. All winners will be formally recognized during a special ceremony in early 2018.

Essays should not exceed 250 words and fit on one page. They will be judged on creativity, clarity, sincerity of thought and proper use of grammar.

Entries must be mailed and received by Friday, Dec. 1, 2017.
