An Iowa City apartment took on roughly $60,000 in damage following a late night fire on Thursday, July 7, 2016. 

Fire crews responded at 10:35 p.m. to 519 Fairchild St., and found fire in a third-flood apartment unit. Crews quickly contained the fire and had it extinguished within 20 minutes. The only person inside at the time escaped safely. 

Sixteen on-duty Iowa City firefighters responded along with the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance and Johnson Emergency Communications Center. Mid-American Energy also provided assistance. 

The fire department remained on scene for more than two hours. Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire.
