At 10:03 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, the Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a reported fire at 2049 Little Creek Lane, a duplex structure. The first units arrived to find fire visible on the front of the building, primarily on the garages to both 2049 and 2041 Little Creek Lane. Crews quickly extinguished the exterior fire and then performed extensive work to uncover hidden fire in the walls and attic spaces. Crews contained the fire and brought it under control within 20 minutes of arrival. All occupants had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department.

Sixteen on-duty ICFD personnel participated in fire suppression efforts. A callback of off-duty personnel was initiated and seven responding personnel were assigned to reserve apparatus to maintain response capability during the fire. Personnel from the Johnson County Ambulance and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center also provided assistance. Fire crews were on scene for approximately two hours. The properties, valued at $313,240, suffered damage that is estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
