The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is implementing a temporary one-way route on the trail at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. The clockwise temporary one-way route is for all bikers, walkers, runners, and hikers and will be in effect until social distancing guidelines are lifted.

Weather permitting, beginning on Monday, April 20, 2020, northbound Clinton Street will be closed to traffic between Burlington Street and Washington Street. Access to the Capitol Street parking ramp will be maintained all times. This closure is necessary to facilitate street pavement repair work in the area. It is anticipated that Clinton Street will be re-open to normal traffic on Thursday, April 23.

Motorists are to take note of this construction and to seek another route during this time period. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through all construction...

Landfill to open to rural Johnson County residents for recycling & bagged household trash

Due to limited waste removal options in rural Johnson County, the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center will open to these residents beginning Monday, April 20.

Business hours will run from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. County residents may bring their recycling and bagged household trash only and will need to provide an ID. No yard waste or bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, electronics, or appliances will be accepted.

The Landfill is temporarily closed Saturdays to all customers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Explore less used City parks to ensure social distancing

With nice weather in the forecast this weekend, the City would like to remind residents that social distancing is required to help slow the spread of COVID-19, even when outside at parks and dog parks.

Past weekends have seen large numbers of residents gathering at City parks. While getting outdoors is important during the pandemic, such gatherings could lead to more spread of COVID-19 since carriers of the disease often show no symptoms.

Sidewalk Closure at Prentiss Street and Linn Street

On Monday, April 13, 2020, MidAmerican Energy will be conducting gas main relocation work that will require the closure of sidewalk and curb ramp in the northwest corner of the intersection of East Prentiss Street and South Linn Street.

The work is expected to begin at 7 a.m. and should be completed that evening. Due to the limited availability of existing sidewalks in the area, pedestrians are asked to use caution when walking in the area.

Due to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention's recent recommendation that people should wear cloth masks while in public spaces where social distancing may not be possible, the City is asking transit riders to please wear a cloth mask when riding a bus.

Wearing a cloth mask while riding transit will help keep both the drivers and riders safe, and limit the spread of COVID-19. City bus drivers also have access to, and and wear, masks.
