At 2:36 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, the Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a reported fire at 1100 Arthur Street, Apartment K4. Initial reports indicated a fire in a bedroom. Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) officers arrived to find fire coming from a second story window. The initial arriving fire department units found fire in the bedroom of apartment K4. Crews quickly contained the fire and extinguished it within 15 minutes of arrival. All occupants self-evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department. The occupants were evaluated at the scene by the Johnson County Ambulance Service and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.   

Sixteen on-duty ICFD personnel participated in fire suppression efforts. Personnel from the ICPD, Johnson County Ambulance, Johnson County Emergency Communications Center, MidAmerican Energy and the American Red Cross also provided assistance. The fire department remained on scene for just under two hours. The apartment building suffered approximately $10,000 in damages. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
