The Iowa City Jazz Festival is a three-day weekend full of live jazz music that closes out with a spectacular fireworks display on Sunday evening over the University of Iowa Pentacrest.

The festival, produced by Summer of the Arts, will happen Friday, June 30 through Sunday, July 2, 2017, and includes performances by national and international jazz musicians – plus culinary and artist rows, a beverage garden and fun zone for kids. 

Road closures and restricted parking

No parking starts at 12:30 p.m. and roads close at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017. All streets will be reopened between noon and 12:30 p.m., Monday, July 3

  • Iowa Ave., between Clinton St. and Dubuque St.
  • Clinton St., between Jefferson St. and Washington St.
  • Washington St., between Clinton St. and Dubuque St.
  • Dubuque St., between Jefferson St. and Iowa Ave.

In addition to reduced street parking, some ramp and lot parking will be reserved for festival vendors, performers and service vehicles. Look for posted signs indicating restricted parking.

During the festival, parking will operate regular hours, rates and enforcement. All parking ramps will be open and staffed.

  • Bike Parking

Free festival bike parking, that includes a secure valet, will be available at the intersection of Iowa Ave. and Dubuque St., near Culinary Row. No need for bike locks or to carry your helmet around. People can also use City racks located throughout downtown.

Transit schedule

The bus interchange at the intersection of Clinton St. and Washington St. will be temporarily relocated next to the Court Street Transportation Center,  150 E. Court St., beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, June 29 and will remain there through Monday, July 3, 2017. 

Normal schedules will be in place, but several stops will be closed. Transit services will be free on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1. No service on Sunday, July 2 or Tuesday, July 4.

Fireworks Display

The City of Iowa City holiday fireworks show will get underway sometime between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m., on Sunday, July 2, following the final jazz performance on the Main Stage.

Be mindful of the possibility of delays due to inclement weather. The rain date is set for Monday, July 3. Same time, same place. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and take in the show from the University of Iowa Pentacrest lawn. The west lawn provides the best view, but fireworks will be visible from the east side of the Old Capitol building and Downtown. For more information, visit

Accessibility accommodations 

An accessibility golf cart shuttle will be available to people with mobility issues. Call 401-584-2787 if you need assistance to get from the ramps to the main festival area. An accessible seating area will also be located to the left of the Main Stage.

General festival information

Information booths will be available at the main festival entrances and at the merchandise both on Clinton Street. A first aid station will be accessible on Clinton Street as well.
