The Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a reported fire alarm at Menards, 2605 Naples Avenue, at 3:29 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The first unit arrived to find multiple sprinkler heads activated in the detached lumber storage building. The fire crew found the fire to be mostly extinguished with small spot fires located in the rack storage. There were no occupants in the structure at the time of the fire. 

Five ICFD personnel assisted with fire suppression efforts. Fire crews were on scene for approximately two hours. The structure housed various building materials to include lumber and shingles. Damage is estimated at $15,000. The origin of the fire was in the area of a wood cutoff saw. The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental.
