The Iowa City Police Department will host another Coffee with a Cop event from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 at Hy-Vee, 812 S. 1st Avenue in Iowa City. Residents are invited to join their neighbors, friends and co-workers to discuss community issues with neighborhood police officers. There’s no agenda scheduled -- this is just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know police officers in a relaxed setting over a cup of coffee. Gateway Project update: Dubuque Street will not close at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4, 2016

On Thursday, August 4, 2016, Dubuque Street will temporarily close at approximately 11 a.m. for work related to the Iowa City Gateway Project. Underground rock is being split to allow for the installation of deep sanitary trunk sewer under the northbound lanes of Dubuque Street. There will be no closure today at 6:30 p.m. as previously planned.

Iowa City Police investigate armed robbery

Iowa City Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened early Thursday morning.

On Thurs. Aug. 4, 2016, just before 1 a.m., officers responded to McDonald's, located at 2440 Mormon Trek Blvd, for a report of an armed robbery. Witnesses told authorities that the restaurant had been robbed by a black male with a handgun.

The victims said they were leaving the business when the suspect approached them, showed a handgun and forced them at gunpoint back into the store. The suspect then forced the victims to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash and/or property....

Tuesday’s walk marks his fourth event since April and will begin at 4:30 p.m. The Mayor’s Walks provide the Mayor with the opportunity to learn more about the City from the residents he serves.

Iowa City Transit will no longer operate on its summer schedule and will resume regular service, beginning Monday, Aug. 15, 2016.

Schedule changes are listed below:

The Towncrest and Oakcrest routes will resume operating 30 minute service all day, Monday through Friday. Night and Weekend service for the Towncrest and Oakcrest routes will be unchanged. The free Downtown Shuttle route will resume operating.

Traffic patters are changing while work on the Washington Streetscape Project progresses.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, northbound traffic on Dubuque Street will close between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street. Southbound traffic on Dubuque Street will remain open.

Additionally, Washington Street will close to westbound traffic between Linn and Dubuque Streets, while eastbound traffic on Washington Street will remain open.

For most of August, drivers and pedestrians can expect Dubuque Street to close temporarily at approximately 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for underground work.

However, as a contingency, crews may close the road at 2 p.m . should the 11 a.m. work need to be delayed. Workers will not stop traffic more than twice per day.

The Iowa City Police Department is asking for continued help from the public in identifying a suspected bank robber. First American Bank is now offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect and Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering $1,000. On July 20, 2016 at approximately 1:53 p.m. officers responded to First American Bank, located at 640 Highway 1 West in Iowa City, for a report of an armed robbery. Officers flooded the area looking for a black male, dressed in black that had fled the bank on foot.

Speed humps to be installed in three locations in Iowa City

Work to install three speed humps, as part of the 2016 Traffic Calming Project, will being Mon. Aug. 1, 2016, weather permitting.

The three locations include:

Westbury Drive between Westbury Court and Glastonbury Street Langenberg Avenue between Oxen Lane and Sycamore Street Sandusky Drive between Keokuk Street and Broadway Street

The roads will be down to one lane of alternative traffic while the work is being done. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the areas. Normal travel will likely resume by the end of the day on Aug. 3.
