The deadline to register teams for a dodgeball tournament fundraiser for Special Olympics in Iowa has now been extended another week to Friday, Oct. 30.
Cost is $200 per team. Each team must include seven players to start, although teams can have up to 10 players on their roster. All players must be 12 years of age or older. To sign up, visit www.firstgiving.com/soiowa. All participants will receive a tournament t-shirt.
The tournament is scheduled Sunday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Grant Wood Elementary School Gym, 1930 Lakeside Drive in Iowa City. Food and beverages will be available on site. Teams are encouraged to wear costumes, and participants are urged to bring friends and family members to cheer their teams on.
Funds raised will be used to support Special Olympics Iowa to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Organizers include police departments from Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and the University of Iowa. Local businesses are being sought to serve as event sponsors. For more information, contact Iowa City Crime Prevention Officer R.A. Mebus at 319-356-5276 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
