Backyard Abundance, in cooperation with the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department, is trying to raise $6,500 to install informational plant signage and create educational websites for Iowa City’s public edible landscapes. If $1,500 is raised by Nov. 13, an anonymous donor has agreed to match that amount. The fundraiser ends on Nov. 23.

Backyard Abundance has created three public edible landscapes where food is free for the picking:

Crews began collecting leaves in zone #2 late Monday afternoon. As of 7 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 10, leaf crews will continue to collect leaves in zone #2.

The Iowa City Holiday Markets, scheduled on Nov. 14 and Dec. 12, are part of the City of Iowa City’s Farmers Market program. This Saturday’s event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street. Patrons can park in the adjoining Recreation Center parking lot and in the Chauncey Swan parking ramp at no charge.
