At their Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020 meeting, the Iowa City City Council authorized an independent review of the June 3 protest incident that took place near the Interstate 80 interchange at N. Dubuque Street. The review will be conducted by the OIR Group of Playa Del Rey, California, and is expected to be completed within 90 days of its start date.

The final round of curbside debris cleanup will conclude on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020.

Once the final round of cleanup is completed, yard waste removal will revert to pre-storm requirements.

Curbside customers may place fallen tree limbs, branches, brush and woody yard waste at the curb for pick-up on their normal garbage day only if it meets the following specifications:

The final round of curbside debris cleanup began Monday, and has proceeded faster than first predicted, meaning the City's final round should conclude on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020.

Many zones, including 1 through 13, have either been completed, or will be shortly. Zones 6 and 9 should be finished by end of day Thursday or early Friday.

Tow warning signs have been posted on two City streets so residents can remove their cars to facilitate cleanup of storm debris on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020.

Labor Day schedule announced for City of Iowa City

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St., are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020, additional closures and changes to schedules have been updated.

Over the last three nights, numerous public and private properties were vandalized with spray paint as part of ongoing protests in an around Downtown Iowa City. Iowa City Police continue to prioritize public safety by assigning officers to assist with rerouting of traffic. Safety of protestors, law enforcement, and the general public remain our top priority. Rita’s Ranch Dog Park closed for a week starting Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020

Weather permitting, beginning on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020, Rita’s Ranch Dog Park will be closed to the public.

The closure will facilitate the installation of storm sewer through the park. It is anticipated that the work will take about one week to be completed and the park will reopen on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Temporary fence will be installed to close off a portion of the park a day or two in advance of the closure. The temporary fence will remain up in that area for a couple weeks after the work is complete, allowing time for the grass reestablish.
