As part of its 35th anniversary celebration, the Iowa City / Johnson County Senior Center will host an open house and ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held at the center at 28 S. Linn Street in Iowa City.

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street, will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016 for the holiday. Other City facilities that will be closed, or changes that will take place to City services and schedules on July 4, are as follows:

Airport: The office will be closed on Monday, but Jet Air will be open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and 24-hour self-serve fuel will be available.

Free skin cancer screenings will be offered at the Iowa City Senior Center on Saturday, May 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Screenings will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis for people of all ages. No appointments are needed.

Participants should check in at room 202 on the Center's second floor. Wear short sleeves and shorts, if possible, so that sun-exposed areas of the skin can be examined by dermatologists. As part of a series of events celebrating the Iowa City Senior Center’s 35th anniversary, The Center’s two choirs, the Family Folk Machine and the Voices of Experience, will present a combined intergenerational concert at the Englert Theatre on Saturday, May 21, at 2 p.m. The program, called “Hard Times Come Again No More: Songs of Struggle and Hope,” is made up of songs about human rights and social justice, and will be presented by singers ages 4 to 86.
