With temperatures dipping to dangerous lows this week, avoid the outdoors and enjoy a City space.

Public Library

The Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St., is available for people to stay warm while starting a new book or browsing a variety of materials for check out. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Senior Center

The Senior Center will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and all are welcome to enjoy the warm and welcoming environment.

Administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The City is partnering with several local organizations to host an event to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King.

Note: Curbside garbage, recycling and organics will be collected on Monday.

City Hall administrative offices in Iowa City will be closed on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24, Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, and New Year's Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

The following schedules will be in effect for other City facilities during the holidays:

Airport: Office closed December 24, 25, and January 1. Jet Air (FBO) will be closed Dec.25, but will be available for a fee by calling 319-248-1200. Service will be available regular hours the other days. Self Services fuel (100LL and Jet-A) available 24-hours.

Community members are invited to attend the Art is Ageless exhibition and fundraising auction hosted by the Iowa City Senior Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019.

The free summer lunch program for any child age 1-18 will continue for over two more weeks at the Iowa City Senior Center.

Free lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Senior Center, 28 S. Linn St., until Wed. Aug. 21, 2019.

In May, the City announced a collaboration with Horizons and the Iowa City Community School District to provide free meals and snacks to any child age 1-18 at three area locations during summer: Mercer Park Aquatic Center, the Iowa City Public Library, and the Senior Center.

Senior Center closed Friday for water main work

The Senior Center will be closed Friday, July 12, 2019, due to water main repair work nearby.

The water main in the 300 and 400 blocks of Washington Street will be shut off starting at 6:30 a.m. Friday, as part of the Gilbert Street Intersection Improvements Project. The Senior Center is located in the 300 block of Washington.

Water is expected to be turned back on later that morning. The Senior Center will reopen Saturday morning for classes and extended member access.
