The Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center (The Center) has found a new way to give back to community members in need: fresh produce from their Give Back Garden!

Earlier this year, The Center was gifted a community garden plot at Chadek Green Park, 1920 Friendship St. A team of dedicated volunteers made up of staff and Center members planted many different types of produce, and tended the garden throughout the summer.

In late August, the garden began to yield produce like tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and more.

All produce from the garden will be made available to community members in need at the Simply and Free Pantry Exchange at The Center, just inside the Washington Street entrance.
