The closure of Burlington Street from Riverside Drive to Madison Street has been extended to Friday, June 5, 2020.

The street was slated to reopen Friday, May 15, 2020 following a sanitary sewer delay. The new extension is necessary to complete trench backfilling and compaction, railroad crossing improvements, and street paving.

The Governor has ordered that restaurants, salons, barbershops, and more businesses may reopen, with restrictions, in Iowa City and Johnson County starting at 5 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2020. Businesses are required to follow specific guidelines in order to reopen.

Gatherings of 10 or more people are still prohibited until at least Thursday, May 28, 2020.

On Monday, May 11, 2020, Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague signed a new order that will delay a previously approved water rate increase and modify sidewalk cafe fees and regulations for businesses.

Both moves are aimed at helping residents and businesses, respectively, navigate the uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis in Iowa.

The City's plan to verify radon testing at all single family detached and duplex rental units has been moved back to July 1, 2021 due to COVID-19.

In January, the City of Iowa City announced a new policy requiring all single family detached and duplex rental properties to be tested for hazardous radon levels as a step towards improved public health. City Hall and other City of Iowa City offices will be closed Monday, May 25, 2020, for Memorial Day.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City facilities have been closed to the public since early March, but critical City operations have continued with full staff. On Memorial Day, many City staff will have the day off, altering some operations.

The Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center will open to residential customers on Monday, May 18, 2020. All services, including yard waste, bulky items, electronics and appliances recycling, and compost will be available. Wood chip mulch will not be available until further notice.

The Landfill is located at 3900 Hebl Avenue SW in Iowa City. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday the week of May 18.
