The gigantic City-sponsored garage sale known as Rummage in the Ramp ends this Wednesday, August 3, 2016, but donations continue to come in and there are still plenty of great items for sale. Donation and sale hours run from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, August 1 through Wednesday, August 3. The “Name Your Price” sale begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday to help clear out remaining items. Find items you want to buy and tell us what you’ll pay for them!
The sale is being held in the lower level of Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp, across the street from City Hall in the 400 block of Washington Street, next to the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center parking lot. While you’re shopping at Rummage, be sure to stop by the Wednesday Farmers Market on the opposite side of the ramp for some fresh, locally grown produce, homemade baked goods, and other items.
Rummage in the Ramp is an annual donation-and-resale recycling event coordinated by the City of Iowa City to help keep still-usable items out of the Iowa City Landfill as leases turn over and tenants move out of their apartments. People donate items they no longer need, ranging from furniture and housewares to clothing and books, which are then offered for sale to the public at bargain prices. Proceeds from the sale are divided by local nonprofits and student groups that help staff the event. Since it began 10 years ago, Rummage in the Ramp has diverted 218 tons (436,000 pounds!) from the Landfill, and raised more than $130,000 to benefit the community.
