Iowa City homeowners looking to make their lawns greener, healthier, and more environmentally friendly can have 50% of soil quality restoration costs reimbursed, up to $2,000, by taking part in the Your Best Lawn program.

Your Best Lawn is a partnership between the City of Iowa City, the cities of Coralville and North Liberty, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The main entrance of Oakland Cemetery, off of Brown Street, will be closed for maintenance on Friday, April 1, 2022. Access to the cemetery will be available at the Reno Street entrance. Work is expected to be completed that day.

City expands enforcement for vehicles parking in bike lanes; violators subject to fines and towing

On March 22, 2022, the City Council voted unanimously to amend an ordinance that expands the enforcement of bike lanes being blocked by parked vehicles.

Stopping, standing or parking in bike lanes is already prohibited by city code; however, only Police were able to provide enforcement. This code change makes such an offense a non-moving violation, enabling Parking enforcement staff to issue citations. Read the full ordinance online.

Effective immediately, travel on Rochester Avenue, from First Avenue to Montrose Avenue, will be impacted. It is anticipated normal traffic will resume by mid-June.
