An emergency water main repair will require parts of First Avenue in Iowa City to be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. This will impact First Avenue from D Street to Muscatine Avenue.

Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if traveling in this area, as delays will occur.  As always, drivers should exercise caution when traveling through construction areas.

The impact to Transit routes is as follows: Stop #7229 on D Street at Third Avenue will be closed during construction. Riders should use Stop #7231 on Third Avenue and Friendship Street as an alternative.

It is anticipated that normal traffic will resume by the end of the day.
