Several Downtown Iowa City roads will be closed beginning Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, for Iowa City Pride events and Pride Unity March.
Iowa City Pride is an annual celebration of our LGBTQ community that's organized by the Iowa City Pride organization. The event will take place in the Ped Mall and on multiple Downtown streets. Usually held in June, Iowa City Pride was moved due to COVID-19. For more information about the event, visit iowacitypride.org.
Road closures will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at the following locations:
- Linn Street from Iowa Avenue to the alley north of the Iowa City Public Library
- Washington Street from Dubuque Street to Linn Street
Moving road closures will also occur the morning of Saturday, Oc.t 2, 2021, to allow for Iowa City Pride's Unity March. Those marching will gather at about 10 a.m. at College Green Park. The march will start at about 11:45 a.m. The march route is as follows:
- Start at the intersection of College Street and Johnson streets
- Move north on Johnson until Iowa Avenue
- Move west on Iowa Avenue until Dubuque Street
- Move south on Dubuque until Washington Street
- Move east on Washington until Linn Street
- End at the intersection of Linn and Washington streets
The march is expected to last about 15 minutes. Those traveling through the Downtown area should avoid that route.
Transit detours will take effect due to road closures for Iowa City Pride on Friday, October 1, and Saturday, October 2, 2021.
At 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, Iowa City Transit will make the following operational changes due to street closures for the Pride Fest:
The affected bus routes are the outbound Southside Shuttle (Friday only), outbound Court Street, outbound Towncrest, and the outbound South Iowa City routes. These routes will detour using Clinton Street to Burlington Street instead of traveling eastbound on Washington Street. The inbound trips of these bus routes will not be affected.
The bus stops located at Washington Street and Linn Street (#7200) and at Washington Street, across from City Hall on Washington (#7456), and Gilbert Street (#7201) will not be serviced during the events. Normal service will resume on Monday, October 4, 2021.
