Weather permitting, beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, Iowa Avenue will be closed to traffic from Riverside Drive / Highway 6 to Madison Street.

This closure will allow for repair work to be completed on the CRANDIC Railroad overpass on Iowa Avenue. It is anticipated that Iowa Avenue will reopen to normal traffic by the end of the day on Friday, Jan. 10. However, the westbound lanes of traffic will be closed again on Monday, Jan. 13 through Friday, Jan. 17.

Motorists are to take note of this work and seek an alternate route during this time period.  As always, caution should be exercised when driving through all construction areas.

Transit detour

Several Iowa City Transit bus routes will detour due to railroad maintenance work.

The inbound and outbound Westside Hospital, Westwinds, Plaen View, Manville Heights to UIHC, and the outbound Melrose Express will detour due to the maintenance work.

The bus stops located at English Philosophy Building (stop 0145), Iowa Avenue and Madison Street (stop 7090), and IMU (stop 0146) will be temporarily out of service while work is ongoing.

Customers who normally use these stops should catch their buses at the transit interchange located at the corner of Clinton and Washington streets. Normal service is anticipated to resume on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020.

For more information on transit detours, contact Curtis Brenton, Operations Supervisor, at 319-356-5157.
