Traffic Alert - Melrose Avenue lane reduction

Weather permitting, beginning Monday Oct. 5, 2020, westbound Melrose Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic between Emerald Street and Westgate Street to facilitate pavement repair. It is anticipated the work will be completed by Monday, Oct. 12, 2020.

Motorists should take note of this construction work and allow extra travel time as delays may occur. Please use caution when traveling in all construction areas.

Urban bow hunting underway as part of Iowa City’s Deer Management Program

The 2020-2021 deer bow hunt program, part of the City's Deer Population Management Project, started on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, and ends on Jan. 10, 2021.

The hunts are held only on private property, and conducted by the property owner or those with permission from the owner.

No bows can be fired within 150 feet of any trail, road, park, school, sidewalk, or right-of-way. Additionally, no bows can be fired within 150 of a home or property line without an owner’s permission.

Weather permitting, beginning on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, sanitary sewer cleaning work will require streets to be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic at the following locations:

Lakeside Drive between Nevada Avenue and Aniston Street Aniston Street Amber Lane Regal Lane Sycamore Street between Crosby Lane and Terrapin Drive

Cleaning will occur during daytime hours and it is anticipated that normal traffic will resume at each location by end of the day. All of the above-listed cleaning operations will be completed by the end of the day, Friday, Oct. 9, 2020.

Update: On Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, the Governor extended the closure of bars in Johnson County until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020. The original order had been extended until Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, and has been extended once again.

Iowa City Parks & Recreation will begin taking reservations at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020, for those interested in swimming at Mercer Pool. The pool officially reopens Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, on a reservation-only basis.

Reservations are open to both residents of Iowa City and non-residents and will cost $4 per lane per hour. Currently, all pool passes are suspended. Temporary storm debris disposal site closing effective October 1

On August 14, 2020, the City opened a temporary disposal site for yard debris at the lot south of the Iowa City Transit facilites at 1200 S. Riverside Drive for residential use through September 30. Effective Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, yard waste will no longer be accepted at the site.

The Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, located at 3900 Hebl Avenue SW, accepts yard debris at the compost site during regular hours, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
