Rebate program for electric vehicle charging at apartment buildings, condo complexes now available

The City of Iowa City is announcing a rebate program to help offer the costs of installing level 2 vehicle charging at apartment and condominium buildings for shared use by their residents.

Program outline and Eligibility

Building owners and managers wishing to provide electric vehicle charging to their residents may apply for a 50/50 match of installation costs (labor and materials) up to $1,000. If an electrical panel upgrade is required, a rebate of up to $2,500 is offered.

Three additional glass drop-off locations have been established for our service area (residents of Johnson County, Kalona, Riverside) to recycle glass at no cost.

The new locations will be for glass only (except for Coralville Drop-off Recycling Center); there will not be recycling options for plastic, metal, paper, or cardboard. As a reminder, the glass drop-off bins have been recently painted purple.

Mayor Bruce Teague lifts local mask order

In light of new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines concerning COVID-19 precautions, Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague has lifted the local mask order and civil emergency declaration, effective immediately. However, those who have been exposed to COVID-19 or have tested positive are still asked to adhere to CDC isolation and quarantine guidelines.
