Just in time for your holiday shopping needs, parking ramps throughout Downtown Iowa City will be free on Small Business Saturday, Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Though holiday shopping will look different due to COVID-19, Iowa City residents should take the time to support the small, locally-owned businesses that help keep our economy running and our City vibrant.

By order of the Mayor, masks are required in all businesses within Iowa City. Social distancing is also encouraged to help keep your family and our community safe while shopping.

Governor makes additional funds available for COVID-19-impacted renters and homeowners

The Governor announced additional funds for the CARES Act to support Iowa renters and homeowners at-risk of eviction or foreclosure due to a COVID-19-related loss of income, on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020.

The Iowa Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention program has now allocated a total of $37.4 million, with approximately $8 million remaining available. The deadline to apply for rent and mortgage assistance as well as utility assistance through the Iowa Residential Utility...

Downtown Shuttle service changes begin Thanksgiving week

There will be no Downtown Free Shuttle Service during Thanksgiving week, beginning Monday, Nov. 23, 2020.

Due to the University of Iowa moving to an online learning platform beginning Monday, November 30, 2020, the Downtown Free Shuttle will not operate until UI returns to regular session.

All other service will be provided per normal schedules and times.

As a reminder, face coverings are required and must be properly worn (covering nose and mouth) to ride Iowa City Transit.

The Iowa City City Council officially established the Ad Hoc Truth and Reconciliation Commission at their September 15, 2020, formal meeting. Following an application and review process, Council announced the appointment of nine board members to serve two-year terms at their November 17, 2020 meeting.

“No Parking Due to Maintenance – Tow Away Zone” signs have been posted on portions of five City streets to facilitate leaf removal on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.

On Tuesday, November 17, the following streets were posted for leaf removal that will begin at 7 a.m. on Friday, November 20:

The 300-600 Blocks of S. Summit St. The 300-500 Blocks of S. Governor St. The 300-500 Blocks of S. Lucas St. The 1000 Block of E. Court St. The 1100 Block of E. Washington St.

City impacts following Governor's latest COVID-19 order

On Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, the Governor issued new mitigation efforts to help control the surge of COVID-19 cases across the state.

Those efforts included mandating masks in indoor spaces open to the public, prohibiting indoor events of more than 15 people and outdoor events of more than 30, and the suspension of all organized youth and adult sports activities of any size (not including high school, college, or professional).

In light of the update order, the City has taken steps to offer additional mitigation efforts locally.

Leaf Vacuum Program to begin final pass of the City

Leaf crews will begin the final pass of the City in Zone #1 after Zone #7 has been completed. We anticipate this being on either the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 18, or the morning of Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020.

We will then proceed in numerical order and will move into Zone #2 after Zone #1 has been completed. Crews will not return to any of the zones once collection has been completed. Additionally, crews will not return for piles raked after the area has been collected or for piles not collected due to parked cars.
