Expect traffic delays Saturday for Kinnick 5K event

Thousands of people are expected to participate in the Kickoff to Kinnick 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, which will cause some travel delays along the race route.

Roads along the route will not completely close to traffic, but portions will be reduced and slow moving. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible. The run starts at 9 a.m.

Mercer Park Aquatic Center closed 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday for swim meet

The Mercer Park Aquatic Center, 2701 Bradford Drive, will be closed from 6 a.m. to to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019.

The closure will allow the facility to host a swim meet. The aquatic center should resume normal operations from 4 to 8 p.m. that day with open swim.

The pool at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert St., will be open normal hours that day: 6:15 a.m. to noon.

Ped Mall Update: Clinton Street sees lane reductions

Clinton Street has been reduced to one lane of traffic in either direction, with no center turn lane, in Downtown Iowa City as the Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project looks to enter its final stages.

Reduced lanes on Clinton Street allow for paving work to be finished at its intersection. The street will remain open at all times, however, traffic congestion may occur. Spend your September Sundays meeting and enjoying your neighbors during a special series presented by Party in the Park.

From 4-5:30 p.m. each Sunday, one City park will host a bevy of activities, games, entertainment and more. This year, the theme is tailgating, so families and people of all ages can enjoy free food, yard games, corn hole, sponge toss, and Hawkeye crafts.

Tips for storm debris cleanup in Iowa City

Storms rolled through Iowa City Monday, Sept. 9, 2019, bringing with them wind and rain that knocked down tree branches and limbs throughout the City.

Forestry staff is not able to remove debris on private property. Homeowners and landlords are advised to contact a private tree company if assistance is needed.

Residents can report downed trees and large branches impacting the public right-of-way using the ICgovXpress mobile app, online at www.icgov.org/ICgovXpress , or by calling 319-356-5000.

Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center closed for temporary planned power outage

The Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center has closed for Tuesday, September 10, 2019, due to a planned power outage.

The outage is expected to last most of the day, with business returning to normal Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019. Animal Center staff asks that all licenses and normal business be conducted on Wednesday.

Woodside Place closed for resurfacing work

Woodside Place has been closed from Greenwood Drive to Woodside Drive for resurfacing work.

Weather permitting, it is anticipated that Woodside Place will reopen to normal traffic by Monday, September 23, 2019.

Effective immediately, the inbound Oakcrest and Night/Weekend Oakcrest bus routes will detour due to the work.
