The Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee has announced the recipients of the latest round of Public Art Matching Grants. 

Funded through the Iowa City Public Art Program, local artists and organizations were able to apply for up to $3,000 in matching funds to help bring to life any number of art projects that will then be shown in Iowa City. 

The recipients of this most recent round of grants span the entire spectrum of artistic mediums. The recipients are:

Parking Spaces by Stephanie Miracle

This interactive audio experience will guide residents to 10 different "Parking Spaces" in Downtown Iowa City. More information at theparkingspaces.com

  • Launches Saturday, May 7, 2022, as part of Open Air Media Arts Festival
Open Air Media Arts Festival by Public Space One

The Open Air Media Arts Festival invites Iowa-based artists to create video projected works and performance art for this outdoor and free public event. More information at publicspaceone.com/openair.

  • Held on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Rain date Sunday, May 8.
Juggling Performances and Workshops by Luther Bangert

A recipient of the grant from 2021, juggler Luther Bangert will demonstrate his juggling talents while also teaching those interested in how to juggle at public parks.

Quilt show with Old Capitol Quilt Guild

The Old Capitol Quilt Guild received funds to get equipment to display dozens of handmade quilts at the Public Works Open House and Quilt Show on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 3810 Napoleon Lane. 

Quilt display by India Johnson

A part of the Porch Light Literary Center, 1019 E. Washington St., this exhibition centers around a 50-square-foot quilt that documents the first year of COVID-19 data in Johnson County. 

  • Will be displayed at 1019 E. Washington St. June 1-30, 2022.
Prompt for the Planet by PromptPress & The Lena Project

Prompt for the Planet has been a collaboration between numerous groups and individuals that urges local artists of all ages to create art through the perspective of an element of nature. This will culminate with a parade, followed by a performance of curated responses on The Englert Theatre's stage planned for September. More info at promptfortheplanet.com.

Boxing Mural by ICOR Boxing

ICOR Boxing has been a staple of the local fitness scene since 2000. A mural dedicated to "the sweet science" will be painted at its location: 391 Highland Avenue. 

Alley Door project by Iowa City Downtown District

The Iowa City Downtown District has launched a new project that will convert doorways in Downtown alleys into vibrant works of art. Learn more at the District's website
