Join us from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp for the Donation Drive-Thru.

The event entrance will be the Washington Street ramp entrance (across from City Hall), which will be turned into a one-way lane. Vehicles will exit the event on the recreation center side of the ramp onto Burlington Street.

Accepted items for donation

Donation items must be gently-used and in good, working condition. Items that do not meet these specifications will not be accepted. All donations will go directly to non-profit partners.

Effective Monday, July 25, 2022, the 1-South Iowa City bus route will not service the bus stops located at Gilbert Street & Prentiss Street (stop 7007), Gilbert Street & Benton Street outbound (stop 7009), Gilbert Street & Bowery Street (stop 7008), and Gilbert Street & Benton Street inbound (stop 7010) due to construction taking place on South Gilbert Street between Bowery Street and Benton Street that will close the road.

Customers who normally travel inbound using stops on Gilbert Street north of Kirkwood Avenue should use the bus stop located at Kirkwood Avenue...

Detour for Rochester announced; road closure set to begin week of Aug. 15

The suggested detour has been announced for the Rochester Avenue Reconstruction Project. The project is set to close Rochester from Ralston Creek to Windsor Drive beginning the week of Aug. 15, 2022.

The detour bypasses Rochester by using Parsons Avenue, Glendale Road, and Ashwood Drive.

Motorists are to take note of this construction work and allow extra travel time or seek an alternate route during this time period.

Traffic Alert – South Gilbert Street

Weather permitting, travel on the following street will be impacted beginning on Monday, July 25, 2022:

South Gilbert Street will be closed in both directions at the CRANDIC railroad crossing between Benton Street and Maiden Lane.

Access to businesses will be maintained and a detour route using Kirkwood Avenue, Benton Street, Riverside Drive, and Burlington Street will be posted.

The closure will facilitate the reconstruction of the CRANDIC railroad crossing and street pavement repair. It is anticipated normal traffic will resume by Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.

Artist Mentor sought to help emerging artist with public bus stop art project

The Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee and the South District Neighborhood Association are seeking qualifications for an Artist Mentor interested in a short-term public art project.

The Artist Mentor will guide an Emerging Artist through a public art project that results in a bus stop bench installation near the Heinz Road and Highway 6 intersection.

The project would involve an estimated 65 hours of service from the start this August through installation in 2023, including serving on a committee to select an Emerging Artist and then serving as a mentor to that artist...

Due to weather concerns, the planned closure of Tower Place Parking Ramp July 15-17, 2022 will not occur. The ramp will operate normally this weekend, with some restricted parking.

Weather permitting, the ramp will be closed from 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, through Sunday, July 24, 2022, for maintenance work. Updates will be issued if additional closure dates are needed.
